The President and members of the Applecross RSL Sub-Branch cordially invite the members of your organisation to attend an ANZAC Commemoration Service at 10.30am on Sunday, 21 April 2024, at the City Memorial, Wireless Hill Park, Ardross. The Service will be preceded by a short march of veterans and youth organizations, who will assemble near the Museum at 10.15am. Please advise President Tom by12 April if you will be attending. |

Guest Speaker: Chris Back The scheduled speaker, Mark Wales, for our SPECIAL BREAKFAST meeting this Tuesday, commemorating ANZAC Day, has regretfully informed us of his inability to attend. However, we're fortunate to have Honorary member Chris Back step in for Mark. Chris will delve into the remarkable stories of citizen soldiers from our history, such as Talbot Hobbs from WA and John Monash from Victoria. Additionally, he will shed light on contemporary examples like NORFORCE, which plays a crucial role in surveilling our northern coastline. Notably, over 60% of NORFORCE comprises First Nation volunteers. Telethon Speech & Hearing Institute

Mark is CEO Telethon Speech and Hearing Institute and he’ll be talking about teaching kids with little or no hearing, how to read. Deafness is endemic in children from the Eastern Wheatbelt. Most of the deafness is technically preventable so even if we can start reducing the numbers with poor hearing, there remains the challenge of working with those kids who are already deaf, who need to learn to read. |

Applecross Rotary have ben tasked with the BBQ duties, cooking and serving sausages in a bun and assisting in car parking, both inside SoPYC and on the Heathcote Lower Land. We have been asked to bring our Rotary branded marquee and banners to make it colorful and to promote Rotary. We will need a team of at least 6-8 for the BBQ (10.30am to 1.30pm), 7 or 8 for parking (7.30am to 9.30) and several for set up and pull down of our infrastructure. Please note the date and watch out for the roster so that you can volunteer. |
