COOPER AND BROMWELL BUILDING APPRENTICE AWARDS

The Applecross Rotary is proud each year to present awards to the Best First Year and Best Third Year Building Apprentices at the South Metropolitan TAFE.

These awards honour the memory of two past members of the Rotary Club of Applecross. John Bromwell, was a cottage builder of noted repute and keen on the advancement of training schemes for young persons in the industry. Past District Governor Bob Cooper was a former principal of the prominent and leading company of Cooper and Oxley and was involved with overseas Rotary projects involved with the construction of much needed accommodation of education and public services and with improved water supplies. The Cooper award is to a first year apprentice and the Bromwell award to the third year apprentice of the now Challenger Institute of Technology.
The Rotary Club seeks nominations from staff of various construction trades of the South Metropolitan TAFE. The nominees are interviewed with the criteria including excellence in their particular course of study, personalities and likelihood of becoming future leaders in their respective trades. The leading building company, Cooper and Oxley, has been a generous supporter of the programme and has provided a substantial sum for investment and ongoing support of the awards.

The Awards were presented on 16th May 2017 at a Dinner at Quinlans Training Restaurant which is also part of the South Metropolitan TAFE. Those present were pleased with the demonstrated skills of the staff and students.
