The route starts in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, France and crosses the Pyrenees into Spain, eventually reaching Santiago.

Catie is an Adjunct Research Fellow in the the School of Agriculture and Environment (SAgE), a European Research Council funded researcher through the Department of Anthropology and Ethnology at Uppsala University, and a PhD candidate in Creative Writing at Curtin University. 

Catie is the author of three books: Saving Heritage Breeds: A Love Story (UWAP 2025), Illness, Identity and Taboo among Australian Paleo Dieters (Palgrave 2018); and At Home in the Okavango: White Batswana Narratives of Emplacement and Belonging (Berghahn 2015).

Applecross Rotary proudly supports FoodBank WA.  Recently the club donated $5000 to help Foodbank fight hunger throughout Western Australia.  This amount recognises the great partnership we have with the residents at Riverside Apartments led by resident and PP George Mavros through the funds received from their Containers For Change donations over a number of years. The residents have a very active social calender

Petrina from Akanna Entertainment will share her thoughts on the performing arts industry, its past, present, and future. As a guest speaker, Petrina will talk about her journey from performer to independent Producer, from aged 7 to the Opera House!

Surya Ambati is a Professional Engineer with 30 years of infrastructure experience, holding an MBA from UWA and Harvard Business School studies. A Brentwood resident and father of two whose children attended Rossmoyne SHS, Surya brings proven community leadership as a WA Multicultural Awards 2023 winner, Advocare Director, and past President of the Indian Society of WA.

He is currently seeking community support for the Applecross-Mount Pleasant Ward and is committed to transparent governance, practical solutions, and ensuring every resident's voice is heard in local decision-making.

Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC) protects Australia unique biodiversity through science, innovation, and partnerships across nearly 2% of the continent.  

Carrie will share stories from the field about how AWC is restoring wildlife and habitats at scale. 

Essi arrived in late July and has already attended the Inbound Students Briefing Day before commencing School at her Host School, All Saints College in the following week. The Club acknowledges the generosity of Tom and Aurian Clarkson to be Essi's First Host Parents and Essi is settling in well with her new Host Family and her new 3 Exchange Sisters. Essi will present on "Her Life Story, so far" We look forward to hearing more of Essi's life story and learning more about her Family, Home, Interests and the Culture in Finland. The Club encourages all Rotarians and their Families to engage with Essi, as this will lead to many great Exchange opportunities and experiences for both Essi and our Club Members.

Chris Bowman found adventure as a child when his father read Treasure Island to him. This ignited a lifelong passion in travel, adventure and exploration.

A highlight of Chris’s boatbuilding career was the 63-foot locally sourced schooner christened Water Pearl he built for Bob Dylan in Bequia, an island in the Grenadines.

Chris moved to Fremantle in 1988 and still works in boatbuilding, and he was engaged on construction of the Endeavour replica.

In 1979, Jim and Jane Cummins purchased Villa Carlotta Hotel
(now Ithaca Manor) and in 1985 began connecting people from the Australind train in Bunbury to Busselton, offering lovely accommodation, great food and an abundance of warm hospitality while showing Perth people the South West of WA.

Their daughter Margaret started tour leading and cooking for guests in 1992 and 30 years on, Villa Carlotta Travel continues to be locally based in Busselton and still owned by Margaret and our Managing Director Matt Walker and his family from 2022. 

David Beard is a highly qualified physiologist specialising in ageing and well-being. Having worked with people from 25 to 105 he knows that maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle is not only essential to enjoying life at any age, it's not as hard as you might think.

David Beard takes the vast and often confusing amount of health information and distils it into practical, usable information so his audience goes away with knowledge and strategies to implement lifestyle changes that are effective and sustainable.

Based on David’s years of working in the Aged Care industry and his first book “If I’d only known I’d live this long,” this is a great way to learn what changes people can make earlier in life to ensure they age gracefully and with the energy and enthusiasm they desire. He will share stories and lessons from some inspirational “old-timers” to help you discover what is possible as you enter the twilight years.

Rhys Powell has spent over 15 years working in the welfare sector. As Community and Corporate Engagement Manager at Uniting WA, his passion is clear: helping the most vulnerable in our community find stability, dignity and hope.

Capital Community Radio 101.7FM is located at Wireless Hill Park, Ardross - a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. For a radio station, its location has a historical significance. It was the site of the first communications radio in 1912 linking Perth with the rest of Australia and the world.

All of the presenters at Capital Community Radio are volunteers and they operate in 2 and 3 hour shifts - from early morning to late at night. Ably assisted by a dedicated team of volunteer producers, all of us at Capital Community Radio are committed to bringing you the best of music and information throughout the extended Perth area, and indeed throughout the world!

Anne Chapple has had a life-long fascination with history and heritage and enhanced this with an incorporation of history studies in her Bachelor of Education degree. 

Voluntarily, Anne has a strong involvement with historic ANZAC Cottage in Mt Hawthorn, and has won several awards for her writing on the history of the Cottage, as well as undertaking many presentations on this topic at conferences and historical groups.

Dr Cassandra Smith is a dedicated clinician-researcher and Accredited Exercise Physiologist with over a decade of clinical experience. She is a National Heart Foundation and Vice Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Research Fellow based at the Nutrition & Health Innovation Research Institute, Edith Cowan University.

Our guest speaker Simon Allan is the Business Development Officer for Red Cross in WA and is involved in Community and Stakeholder engagement activities for the organisation. He will cover the range of the Australian Red Cross’s operations across the state of WA today, with particular focus on Aged and Community Care services.

Our club has a strong collaborative relationship with  Rotary Washington. They have supported our Rotary Foundation Grant for the Mama Respond Kenyan project and are currently supporting our Wheatbelt Speech and Hearing project.

Dorothy will talk about Rotary Washington's projects supporting charitable groups in Ukraine.
