District Conference.

Truly was a great Rotary get together at Mandurah on Saturday for the future of Rotary WA, combining the two current Districts 9455 and 9465 for the last time and prior to the formal inception of Rotary District 9455 on 1/7/23. Lots of energy, enthusiasm for essential change… which was the theme for the conference, fantastic speakers and very professionally presented.  About 260 attended.
Very well done to the ‘volunteer’ Rotary committee behind it all.

Of interest to me is a genuine commitment to work together for the best interests of our overall community, and how Rotary must work hard in order to regain the lost ground of constant falling membership numbers and apparent declining member engagement, in our rapidly changing world.

Speakers included:
  • Phil Britten, a survivor of the Bali Terrorist attack and the impact that this has had on his life, his theme… your choices create your destiny.. so true
  • Evan Burrell, Rotarian from NSW and a passionate advocate of how we must change the traditional perceptions of Rotary and join todays world of expectations.
  • IR Director Vicki Puliz addressing “Why Rotary”, discussing Regionalisation and the challenges Rotary faces.
  • Our own Lyn Beazely overviewing the quirky world of science, and Rotary fitting in.
  • An engaging energetic Rotaract panel explains their view and relationship with both Rotary and their community. (We do need to get some of their engagement if Rotaract Melville is ever going to become a reality!)
  • Benita Cattalani.. a practical and informative development for both creating and implementing change, and some of the inevitable resistances to be faced.
An extensive showcase of Rotary RI, District and Club endeavours were manned up in the foyer, again a pity only we were there to see what great work we do!

The Conference Dinner, attended by around 200 delegates at the Peel Thunder HQ was a great success, and ended a fantastic and historic Rotary event.

Attended by Ray, Chris W and Kenn.
