This is the first Applecross Advocate for the 2021/22 Rotary year.
Last week we celebrated our club’s 50th Anniversary at The Sunshine Harvestor Works in Fremantle. It was a wonderful evening with around 80 guests in attendance, including DG Pat Schraven, PDG’s, Members, Partners and Friends of Applecross Rotary. It was great that Members of Melville Rotary Club, our sponsor club, attended the evening and joined in the fun. New honorary member, Kim Giddens, MLA for Bateman was present.
It was pleasing Life Member Bruce James attended. Bruce will celebrate 50 years with our club this year.
The evening also marked the Change Over Event for the year.
During the evening, two worthy Paul Harris fellows were announced. Bruce Pilgrim, Waylen Bay Sea Scouts (WBSS) was the first recipient for his endless leadership in coordinating activities between our organisations. WBSS provide valuable assistance to our Jacaranda Festival and PMM’s each year.
PP Hamish Turner was the second recipient, for not only his wonderful contribution to our club but also for the work he has undertaken in protecting the native Bilby’s in the Kalbarri national park.
A Life Membership Award was made to PP John Henderson who unfortunately was unable to attend. John has given 45 years of wonderful support to our Rotary world and we look forward to welcoming him back at the club soon.
President Ray and Secretary Chris also received Rotaract Leadership Awards.
The final award for the evening, Rotarian of the year, was presented to Secretary Chris for endless commitment to our club. Well done Chris.
I look forward to serving our club as President this year.
In Closing, and on behalf of all Applecross Rotary Members, I would like to thank immediate PP Ray, for his outstanding leadership and guidance, in what has been a challenging year. Well done Ray!
