A huge thankyou to all of our members who were rostered on for the Perth Makers Market and braved the inclement weather to raise funds for our community projects.  Fortunately there was a reasonable turn-out by the public and made our efforts worthwhile.

The top carpark was kept busy with people wanting to park close to the Markets.  The bottom carpark had plenty of space and Jamie Kelly took the opportunity to train our WBSS volunteers that will be invaluable when the carpark is back to high demand.  The car lines were the straightest I've seen them thanks to Jamie on the day and the professional set-up the day before by Chris Dawson and John Kelly.  What a team!

One of our members who fronted for duty on Sunday morning a little worse for wear was Tom Atkinson.  However, Tom had a ligitimate excuse and it is amazing he made it at all  after his teams grandfinal success on the Saturday afternoon.  Congratulations to Brentwood Booragoon , 2020 C3 Reserve Premiers!  There was a rumour Tom is thinking about retiring!

Why growing membership is so important ... click on this link and you will be able to access the membership site on My Rotary. This site is an excellent resource about all things that drive membership. This is an important read for all club members to get us thinking how we can contribute to the ongoing success of our club and the changing needs in the community.

Kalbarri Wildlife Sanctuary Concept Plan & Vision
This weeks guest speaker was Applecross Rotarian PP Hamish Turner.

Hamish has had a passion for the environment since early childhood growing up in South Africa.

Hamish retired in August 2017 and after a couple of overseas projects decided to do something local.  Having wildlife as a passion and a second home in Kalbarri he thought Kalbarri was a pretty good spot to start.

The idea come up looking at the plight of our wildlife to create a wildlife reserve that would become a world class Ecotourism facility and the reintroduction of Endangered small mammals and Plant species.

    CONNOR: BRINGING HIM HOME
Our RYE Connor Ovens was becoming concerned about whether he would get back in time to begin university in March 2021 so a few weeks ago started a conversation with his family, his host family and the District about this.

Then on Friday the National Cabinet decided to allow more Australians back into WA from oversees so District 9465 has decided to take advantage of the opportunity to get all its exchange students home as soon as seats can be booked.

Here are some excerpts from Connor’s latest report.

WHO are you going to call?

The above graphic shows Rotary Foundation's financial support to the World Health Organisation. Note that the annual contribution is many times larger than many individual OECD countries, including Australia.

Rotary makes amazing things happen, like:

    • Providing clean water: Rotary has worked with partners to provide more than 80 percent of Ghana’s people with clean water to fight Guinea worm disease.

    • Reducing HIV infection: In Liberia, Rotary members are helping women get tested for HIV early in their pregnancies. They used prenatal care to reduce new HIV infections in children by 95 percent over two years.

    • Ending polio: Rotary members have played a key role in bringing the world to the brink of polio eradication. Their efforts have not only ended polio in 122 countries but also created a system for tackling myriad other health priorities, such as Ebola.

    2020 Reconnect Week
    Reconnect Week is 5-11 October

This would be a great opportunity for the club to join in the annual celebration that is Rotary Reconnect Week this October!

An excellent time to reconnect with past Rotary program participants including Rotary Youth Exchange, RYLA, RYPEN, etc.

There is potential for our past participants to reconnect with the club through assisting with our existing and new projects/events or one of the new more flexible membership categories.

    LETS PLAN TO RECONNECT

Thursday 24th September, Sundowner at Kenn and Peta's home.
