PRESIDENT BARRY welcomed guest speaker Dalton McWha and our Rotary Exchange student in Germany Connor Ovens.

Ian Fairnie advised that Helen Jones is finally leaving the Mount Hospital and will spend a couple of weeks at the Alice Ross King Care Centre at RAAFA Bull Creek.  Ian also advised his heart surgery has been postponed until 18 June.

HAPPY DOLLARS:
Happy birthday wishes for Hamish Turner for the 4th June.

Congratulations to George Mavros for his 29 year Rotary anniversary on June 4th.  George was President in 2000 - 2001 and has been actively involved in other board positions as well as managing the stallholders at the Rotary Jacaranda Festival for many years.

George also had another happy dollar when he reported he had his grand children over for dinner for the first time since the Covid-19 restrictions had been put in place.

In 1999-2000 when George was Club Service Director he wrote the following in his annual report -
Thanks to Bruce James we have most of the hard copy AA's up until 1993 and the AA's have been saved onto Clubrunner since 2010.  If anyone can assist in providing copies of the AA's in the gap between 1993 and 2010 it would be greatly appreciated.

John Henderson advised that Helen was back in rehab for exercises and hopes that he can bring some better news next week.

Lorri Brazier updated the meeting on the return to the DOME.  The DOME will get back to her as soon as they have sorted the opening under the 'Phase 3' of eased restrictions that took effect on Saturday 6 June.

Tom Atkinson gave an update on the footy saying it was looking positive due to restrictions lifted to allow contact sport.  Looking at playing games in four weeks with the recommencement of the AFL on Thursday 11 June will see money flowing back through the system.

"Elvis Lives" is the name of the joint venture purchase of the 'fish catching machine' by Kenn Williams and John Kelly.  Looking forward to the stories and the photos of future catches!

7 Years on from RYE - Dalton McWha
Approximately seven years ago Dalton McWha spent a year in Northern Italy on the Rotary Youth Exchange program.  We had the pleasure of finding out what Dalton has done since then.

Dalton was introduced by Ian Fairnie who said he had an easy task as you only have to chat with Dalton for a half an hour and you will feel you have known him all your life,  Ian first met Dalton when he was involved with the John Curtin Leadership Group.  Dalton mentioned to Ian that he was a RYE and would like to continue his involvement with Rotary.  Dalton became a member of our club in November 2016 until December 2017 when he graduated and headed to Canberra then Queensland where he did graduate rotations with various government departments.  He also had a go at starting his own business where he learnt you required a lot of start up capital.  Dalton returned home to a market research job at Synergy and spent time during the Covert 19 restrictions working from the family farm in Narrogin.

Dalton comes from an unique family in relation to RYE in that he was the third person of the family to go on RYE.   Our RYE student Connor Ovens also joined us from Germany (2am local time) and was able to ask some questions and advice from Dalton from his RYE experiences.

Dalton and Connor reinforced why it is great to see the Club back supporting the Rotary Youth Exchange program.
