I have been banging on over recent times about The Changing Times in terms of how Rotary must change how we engage with our community if we are to attract more of the community minded to support our wonderful organisation.
Getting our messaging right, and how we deliver it, to a world with changing community expectations and views on what is and isn’t relevant for their needs, is an essential change of process that we must consider.
And, LOW and BEHOLD, a ‘non political’ view of Saturday’s election outcome, just reinforces my view expressed above.
Like it or not, our ‘world’ is now seeking political engagement which definitively reflects the key interests of new realities: whether you agree with it or not, the old order just won’t resonate and people demand to see change.
Both major parties lost ground, with one party able to harvest the preferential voting outcomes, through better positioning, to gain power.
But therein lies the truth of todays world.
Aspirational beliefs in those who pitch to their interests, without necessarily having a defined means of outcomes attainment, won hands down against the traditional virtues and values that most of our generation stand for.
How it will change doesn’t seem to matter: if you say you support my current aspirations, you get my vote!
Underlying this is the undeniable truth that if we are to remain relevant and contribute to the changes to come, then we must positively review how we engage in order to indeed carry influence on these changes, that they truly do reflect the better interests of all and not just the few!
We are so lucky with our ‘free’ State and Country, and however we can contribute, we do need to move with the times and secure that better tomorrow that all dream of!
My thoughts.
