Suresh Prabhakaran, Surya Ambati and Kenn Williams attended this months MCCC BAH's event
1. Applecross and Melville Rotary have received a special matching Membership Grant from Rotary District 9432 which will enable both clubs to develop a closer working relationship with the Melville Cockburn Chamber of Commerce to sell the benefits to business of joining with us in community charitable giving.
A prime objective will be to increase the awareness of Rotary’s community impact across the 1700 businesses currently on the CoC’s mailing list, and its approaching 250 Members, with the intention of increasing the membership of Rotary
Applecross and Melville, under their respective membership committees, have put the successful submission together, and now it is the time for actioning the proposal and this will be the immediate priority. Stay tuned!
The project will ‘officially’ run for the next 8 months but the intention is for it to be a much longer term relationship with the MCCC
Our contribution to the project will be a matching $1,000 with District, and Melville are providing similar support. Of interest is that Surya has expressed an interest in being a key to this relationship with the Chamber.
At a separate meeting with the Chamber last week, David Porter, of Melville R and I agreed to each of or Club’s, subject to approval, plus Attadale R, sponsoring a CoC Business Award at their May event, to be held at the South of Perth Yacht Club.
Attadale are also keen to be part of the longer term relationship with the Chamber.
This will be a great start to building the closer working relationship with the CoC under the combined Rotary clubs banner.
2. I had an interesting meeting with a key member of the Indian and multicultural community on Saturday, in Rakhi Bose.
- Rakhi was introduced through Surya Ambati, our new member, with the plan of seeking her communities support for some of the heavier lifting of our community project work. Think JacFest and Perth Makers Market.
- The plan is in engaging some willing support for the asset management and manpower required for set up etc of our key major fundraising activities.
- Rakhi led an Indian dance group at our ‘25 JacFest, and is keen to participate again at this year’s event. She was recently awarded ‘The Artist of the Year’ by the Office of Multicultural Interests, a successful nomination forwarded by Chris W following the most recent JacFest.
Of interest to her, in reciprocation, would be to have AxR, or local Rotary, support her plans to introduce regular special NFP (not for profit) community dance and music seminars as an aid to general community wellbeing, especially for our older citizens. Worthy of investigation for mine, given the known benefits, and I will throw over to our Community committee for further development with Rakhi.
3. For Rotary WA, with its Centenary of community activity due in 2027, there will be a fair bit happening in the lead up to a major Expo in Forrest Chase in mid April next year. Certainly AxR will have a part to play in all of this, especially re our own contribution to a better community life.
Be prepared and think ahead… 100 years of Rotary is not to be ignored, along with the over 50 years that AxR has been part of this.
