Hope everyone has had a great week.

We continue our search for a host family and school. Thankfully we have some time now since our student is postponing his arrival for a few months.

In my efforts to find a host family I have stumbled upon a fantastic applicant for next years exchange. I will work on that this week with the board members. I have borrowed the following excellent promo from Perth Rotary.who will be hosting an inbound student in mid July 2023.

Our search for a storage unit we think has been solved thanks to Brett who’s worked tirelessly trying to find an alternative that’s practical and affordable.

This week we have the City of Melville speaking at our meeting which is a great opportunity to get an insight into what they have planned for the Goolugatup Heathcote Reserve that the Perth Makers Market uses for parking.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday.

CAMERON THE MAGICIAN WEAVES HIS SPELL

Mike Smith met Cameron through professional wrestling, and while he may have bettered Cameron occasionally, there was no way he could outdo Cameron in illusions.

Cameron used to work at Adventure World and started learning card tricks when he got bored waiting for the crowds to turn up.  Then three years ago he
decided he was getting good enough to start making a living from magic.  He is hired for corporate workshops, weddings, kid’s parties, as well as recently completing his third season at the Perth Fringe Festival, and “popping up” at small business events in Victoria Park.  He is about to go on tour to eight regional towns in WA.

Meanwhile Cameron is completing a primary teaching qualification and, when he is on his practical experience, he uses magic to keep the little darlings from running amok in the classroom, as they do with other trainee teachers.

A very entertaining morning.  Maybe we’ll see Cameron at JacFest this year.

Rotary Leadership Institute
This Sunday just passed was the second day of two of the Rotary Leadership Institute.

I really recommend this interactive Institute learning as great way of better understanding what Rotary, in the bigger picture, is all about.

Certainly, for newer members, and those taking on future Club leadership roles, the information is first class and interesting with the tutorial booklets a treasure trove reference source.
Unfortunately, as with so much of the current Rotary engagement opportunities, numbers attending were disappointing. Given the time given by the experienced Rotary facilitators, doubly disappointing!

Topics covered today included :
Strategic Planning and Analysis, which hopefully we will review for AxR int the very near future.
                Team Building and Club Communications.
Opportunities for International Service, and Rotary
                Public Image and Public Relations.
All very relevant and with some great interaction and ideas.

I simply reemphasise: don’t be backward in booking in for next year… 2 days well spent on the grander scheme of and for Rotary in our world today.

AND:
Don’t forget that next Sunday morning is the Perth Metro District Assembly and I look of our AxR key office bearers for 23/24 attending.

Represent Australia at Rotary’s biggest event of the year!

The Rotary International Convention is the biggest event of the year and it’s coming to us in Australia, 27-31 May. Thousands of Rotary members and Rotaractors from across the globe will be arriving in Melbourne, giving us a tremendous opportunity to welcome, network and learn from fellow people of action.

Let’s show our Australian spirit while enjoying the extraordinary convention that will feature notable speakers, energising breakout sessions, and ample opportunities to brainstorm ideas for Doing Good in the World. Among the speakers and learning opportunities scheduled
  • Keynote speaker Leymah Gbowee, Nobel Peace laureate from Liberia
  • Climate activist Makeeyat Dramani Sam of Ghana
  • Breakout sessions on leadership, membership, service and projects, the environment, public image, and more

Whether we're on the convention floor, in the House of Friendship, or at one of the exciting events planned by the Host Organising Committee, the 2023 Rotary convention is the ideal place to share ideas and expertise. It’s also our chance to be a champion for Rotary in Australia and make an impact that lasts far beyond four days in Melbourne.

So register today for savings! The reduced rate expires 31 March.
