Hope everyone has had a fantastic week.
Thanks again to Liz and Lorri for an amazing Christmas lunch on Sunday. I was very impressed and loved seeing everyone there. Also, thanks to Erin who took some photos of the event that you can access by clicking here.
Thanks to Peter for his 'fertiliser and food' update last week, always interesting seeing your predictions and updates.
As mentioned at last week's meeting, we are in need to sourcing a host family for an inbound Rotary Youth Exchange student. This will most likely occur in July 2023. It's a fantastic program which literally changes students' lives and would love to see it continue through our club. I will be personally working on this, so any suggestions please reach out.
I am really looking forward to tomorrow Spiteful Santa! Hope everyone remembers to get a gift.
We had a district meeting during the week discussing membership and what we could look at doing to help improve what we are doing. The biggest message that I got from it, is that you need to be more active and involved with the community and changing our stance to be WITH the community and not so much FOR the community.
This implies that the best antidote to what we are looking to achieve which is more membership will only come from getting busier within the community. Doesn't need to be anything on a large scale, this could be as simple as a bike club that rides on a Sunday morning, or I will be hosting dinners at the football club I am involved with and inviting the local retirement village down to join us.
So please if you have a passion for something, like bike riding or drone flying or running or walking or playing tennis or drinking coffee, please lets sit down and see if there is something we could put together that could involve the great community and evolve it into something that we can all get behind.
It was a pleasure to be Santa to about 25 kids at the East Fremantle Tennis Club on Sunday, following on from our AxR Xmas lunch.
Another one of the highly paid community jobs, but at least it brought happiness to many little faces!
All went well til Santa had to leave and discard his Northern Hemisphere outfit: the dress up room had been locked off, so I made a hasty retreat to my car to disrobe…. Only to be followed by half the kids to find out where Santa had his reindeer manacled!
Well, you win some, you lose some… some believers forever!!
Meeting with the Mayor
We met again with our CoM Mayor George Gear yesterday, planning for City support in plans for a new storage area for our vast array of Club assets.
Short term solutions are for a ‘temporary’ opportunity, but long term, not just for AxR but local Rotary and broader community needs, the city will hopefully get behind a permanent community shared storage facility.
We do need to think long term for all of our local volunteering groups, sharing not just the storage, but the assets which ultimately belong to our community.
