IPP Ray, Cockburn Rotary Club President Natalie Blechynden and myself presented to Melville Cockburn Chamber Commerce (MCCC) board last week. The MCCC board accepted our proposal in principle to provide annual business, youth and apprentice awards.
A small working party will meet later this month to define objectives and the process moving forward. From our perspective we will target apprentice and youth awards to be presented at the MCCC Christmas function.
Bookings have been made for this fun fundraiser.
We are targeting around 20 tables of 10 persons.
There will be 6 races with 6 horses. Each horse is auctioned and 50% of race proceeds are retained for the Charity.
A Melbourne Cup Calcutta will also be held.
We hope to raise around $5,000 for our designated Charity
New Community Project
Last week, Secretary Chris announced that an anonymous Club member would donate $10,000 to a new community project. The project would need the support and involvement of all members.
Community Services Director Clive will champion the process and invited all members to propose a suitable.
Brett Hammill was the first cab off the rank.
Following is an excerpt from one of Brett’s proposal.
Proposed Event : REUSE/RECYCLE/RESET – ENVIROMENT DAY
Audience : Benefitting the Local Community
Location : Heathcote
Date : Held annually on World Environment Day (Make sure it isn’t the same day as makers market). June…
A day that provides fun for people of all ages, a place to sell and exchange items, whilst providing the opportunity for the community to provide input and get a better understanding of recycling/reusing and resetting the environment. Also encompasses experiences with farm animals and see how products look before we eat them.
Please email your thoughts to Clive. We will also spend 5 minutes each meeting brainstorming potential projects.
Last meeting's guest speaker was Carrick Robinson who is the CEO of the Perth Children's Hospital Foundation. Carrick presented on their
WA Children's Hospice Project. This will be the first dedicated children's hospice facility for WA and is a partnership with the Foundation, and Child and Aolescent Health Service.
The Foundation is raising $25 million to build the facility and construction is anticipated to begin in late 2022 and is planned to open in 2024. On the weekend it was announced a Lotterywest grant was secured for $4 million.
The McGowan Government has committed $3.2 million for project planning and an increase to the current service capacity of the WA Paediatric Palliative Care Service.
This is a much needed facility for WA children and their families. Following Carrick's presentation a proposal will be put to the Board for the proceeds from the Melbourne Cup fund raising event.
