I hope all Father’s had a great day yesterday. The weather was superb and Spring is certainly in the air.
Speaking of Spring, don’t forgot to send in your travel and garden snaps. The following photo’s were taken in the Kojonup area.

Last week we held our Club breakfast meeting at the “Wheelchairs for Kids” (WCFK) production facility in Wangara.  Twelve Applecross Rotarians were joined by members of the Scarborough Rotary Club (RCS). At the meeting, Gordon Hudson (pictured below) and Workshop Manager Olly gave an overview of the operation and some of the key achievements which include:

  • 50,000th wheelchair was made on 23 August 2021
  • wheelchairs have been shipped to 72 countries
  • over 200 Rotary Clubs have contributed $1.4M
  • initiatives for containers for change have raised over $20,000
Founding member and recently retired volunteer CEO after 22 years Gordon Hudson

At the meeting Scarborough Rotary International Director, Isabelle Chun advised that $1,500 would be donated to our Kenyan School Project. This was gratefully acknowledged.

Our Club has donated $2,000 to Wheel chairs For Kids.
A tour of the facility followed the meeting.

Since 1998, this wonderful charity, in partnership with the RSC, has made a lifechanging impact on the lives of over 50,000 children and their families. We thank WCFK and the RSC, not only a hearty breakfast, but the opportunity to view their amazing operation.

We look forward to Stephen Moir from the Motor Trades Association WA who will speak on Electric Cars at tomorrow meetings

Note that our meeting on 28 September has been changed from morning to evening. At the meeting, we will formally acknowledge Bruce James 50 years of service at Applecross Rotary. Our popular member segment will feature that evening, when PP Ian Fairnie interviews long serving member Tony Haeusler.

Schools Recycling Education Program
Following a long wait for a reply from the Greenbatch Foundation Liquidators (CorCordis), an offer from Perth Rotarian and Rotary-Greenbatch Alliance chair David Wee was accepted for the remaining assets excluding some items that were still being contested.

This allowed for Applecross Rotary to recover 50 x 240L bins that were purchased through a 'Communities Environment Program' (CEP) grant that was received in March 2020. The grant was to fund a Schools Recycling Program for the schools in the City of Melville delivered by the Greenbatch Foundation.
