Last week, we held our first joint meeting with one of our cluster clubs, Booragoon Rotary. It was great to see nearly 40 Rotarian’s and guests attend the meeting as we work to foster greater collaboration between clubs.

Our guest speaker, Gordon Martin gave an overview of Coogee Chemicals development into the diversified industrial chemical company it is today. One of key ingredients of success was the right choice partners such as Wesfarmers and Nufarm.

Perth Makers Market

The fine weather resulted in a large crowd attendance at Sunday’s Perth Makers Market. The car parks were often at capacity and we were all kept busy. It was a successful day in every respect.  A special thanks to all that assisted.

Melville Cockburn Chamber of Commerce

The Melville Cockburn Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) board met last week and approved in principle Applecross and Cockburn Rotary Clubs sponsorship of annual “Rotary Awards” covering Businesses, Vocations, Youth and Apprentices . We will be invited to present at their next board meeting.

Events Coming Up

We have some great events in the coming days, starting with Chris Whelan’s interview with PP Ian Fairnie at this week’s meeting.

This will be followed with our monthly Sundowner (5.30-7.00pm) at Kenn and Peta’s home this Thursday.

Don’t forget that the following week’s meeting will be held at the “Wheelchairs for Kids” Wangara production facility, will include a tour and is not to be missed.

Reminder

A final reminder that August is Rotary International’s Membership and New Club Development Month. Please put on your thinking caps and nominate a friend, colleague or business contact who may be interested in becoming part of the Rotary family.

Greenbatch Foundation Liquidation Update

Thanks to Perth Rotarian and chair of the Rotary-Greenbatch Foundation Alliance David Wee, we have been able to recover our 240L bin assets purchased through a government grant for our schools recycling education program.  David successfully made an offer to the liquidators for items that included our claim.  David's intention is to recover the bin assets for Rotary clubs who have contributed to the Foundation to use to provide their own income stream.

The challenge now is to move the bins etc to factory space that David owns in Kewdale and is providing for no charge.  As we remove everything from the Mt Claremont site the plan, so we do not leave UWA in the lurch, is to cleanup the site that they have provided to the Foundation for a number of years.

Our club is at the forefront of this activity through the super generous support from Mal Taylor and AKA Events Hire to provide a truck for the Wednesday and Friday move.  There have also been a number of our members who have offered to assist and we are hoping for a good response from some of the other Perth clubs.  Ronald Bower has offered his trailer with caged sides and we will also be using the club trailer.

The following is the schedule of activities so if you can assist please let me know by email or at tomorrow's meeting.

Wednesday 9a-2p
Thursday 11.30am onwards
Friday 9am onwards

FINAL Footy Margins result
As both teams played away with none identified as a home game, it was decided that the ADMIN ACCOUNT wins the last round.

Thanks to everyone who entered into our competition and congratulation to the winners.  An email will be sent to you requesting your bank account details to pay your winnings into.

We will be back again next year and hopefully attract more participants so we can increase the weekly  prize money as well as raising some funds for the Admin Account.
