SHELTERBOX
The Rotary in WA Shelterbox team, represented by ambassador Rod Style, will once again be at the Jacaranda Festival.
The team won the Shelterbox Volunteer Team of the year award in 2019.
I heard a whisper that Rod may be joining us at our meeting this Tuesday so if you want to find out more about Shelterbox talk to Rod or click here.
ROTARY SUPPORTING My Home PROJECT
Following a recent presentation to the club about the Rotary WA-Homeless Hub, one of the projects identified that Rotarians in WA have agreed to support is 'My Home' Australasia Limited to provide low cost housing for people experiencing homelessness in WA.
The initial target is women over 55 (underrepresented in homelessness statistics)
Their needs: Homeless and welfare services
Current social circumstances:
1. Single women many of whom have performed home duties/caring roles
2. Financial stress arising from unemployment and/or inadequate superannuation
3. Victims of family & domestic violence
A substantial proportion of homeless people simply can’t afford current rental prices, both in Perth and regional towns. Rent for a single bedroom apartment typically consumes 40% of the aged pension payments
Club Director Andrew Bower recently attended a club liaison officer meeting and "was very inspired by the My Home project". Andrew will present a recommendation to the club on what Applecross Rotary could financially commit to the project.
Andrew has provided the following information about the project.
At this week's breakfast meeting we were joined by Jackie Knight and Maria Moffitt from Destiny Rescue Australia. Jackie is a volunteer and Maria is the Partnership Manager who gave a very confronting talk on child sex trafficking and what we can do about it through the support of Destiny Rescue Australia.
Applecross Rotary is a proud supporter of Foodbank and the Jacaranda Festival gives us an excellent opportunity to 'Run a Food Drive' to help raise awareness of hunger and collect food for people in need.
Through our promotion of the Jacaranda Festival we will be encouraging people to bring along their food donations to our stall number 138.

R100 Centennial Ball | Puttin on The Ritz - 20's Style | Friday 23 April 2021
The Rotary Club of Perth and the Rotary Club of Melville on behalf District 9455 and District 9465 have joined together to create an event in Western Australia that celebrates the First 100 Years of Service of Rotary in Australia – The Centennial Gala Ball.
The Theme is “Puttin on the Ritz” and we look forward to a large contingent of Rotarians at this event. As this is a Western Australia wide event, and numbers are limited, we urge you to book your tickets asap via the try booking link below.
It’s a special time in the history of Rotary in Australia and NZ as we celebrate the First 100 years of Service in 2021.
In 1921, four Rotary Clubs were created in Melbourne, Auckland, Wellington and Sydney. From there, Rotary and Rotaract clubs were created everywhere across Australia and NZ with the Perth Rotary Club being the first club to charter in Western Australia on 15 April 1927.
As Australians, we all share a centenary in 2021 and therefore it is fitting that we should all come together and celebrate the common legacy that we as Rotarians leave behind. Think about the impact we have made in this State and this Country! Let’s shout out loud and celebrate!
There are limited tickets available for this premier celebration of Rotary in WA. Therefore, I urge you to get in contact with your fellow club members, organise your table and book online as soon as possible, otherwise I fear you will miss out.
