APPLECROSS ROTARY JACARANDA FESTIVAL

The count down continues with 15 more sleeps before the 2020 APPLECROSS ROTARY JACARANDA FESTIVAL.

A quick update from committee chair Kenn Williams advises that the City of Melville has the event application to hand and is now going through their approvals process.  Kenn thanks Clive Pearson for jumping through a hoop or two in providing a parking plan which is a new requirement and also for Ronald Bower for stepping up to the Events Application role. The Bump in pack has been sent out to all Stall Holders including our COVID rules for the day. The pre registration process is being promoted through the various festival marketing channels.  The first cut of the Work Schedule has been completed by John Kelly.  Kenn said there is lots more to finalise, especially re COVID Marshalls, entry point staffing and training, briefing of all volunteers etc.  There will be a Jac Fest meeting following our regular meeting on Tuesday (tomorrow).

NOMINATIONS FOR DISTRICT GOVERNOR NOMINEE AND DISTRICT GOVERNOR DESIGNATE

District Governor elect Kay Phipps has tendered her resignation for family reasons resulting in District Governor Nominee Pat Schraven  filling the vacancy left by Kay.  District Governor Colin Burns advises that he will now appoint a nominating committee and seek nominations for DG's for 2022/23 and 2023/24.

Containers for Change WA - where do your containers go?
Since the Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) was introduced on the 1st October 27.8 million containers have been collected.  Every container collected through Containers for Change is recycled!  Before Containers for Change, only 3 in 10 containers were recycled, meaning the other 7 are either being littered or sent to landfill.

Our partnership with Greenbatch not only takes the containers for refund but also continues to collect and process the non CDS type 1 and type 2 plastic containers.  The Greenbatch Foundation have been doing this for over 3 years through support of passionate volunteers wanting to reduce plastic pollution.  By using Greenbatch as a Container Refund operator they receive an additional 6 cents per container from the Containers for Change program that will support their great work in continuing to ENGAGE, EDUCATE and EMPOWER Western Australians to give plastic a new life and keep plastic pollution out of our oceans.
