Last week was our first official “Dome” meeting of the year.

This followed our first meeting, 50th Club anniversary and changeover meeting at the Sunshine Harvester Works.

At the meeting, I gave a brief outline of our Club’s broad objectives for 2021/22:
1. Team - all Club members are the "team".
- committees to meet quarterly as a minimum
2. Membership Targets
- 2021/22: 36
- 2022/23: 40
3. Collaboration
- local Rotary Clubs
- MC Rotaract
4. New annual "fun" fundraiser on Melbourne Cup eve.
5. Maintain Club Sponsors.

Also at the meeting, we welcomed back to the club Kay and John Eva who updated us on Swan Districts Rotary Club’s Cambodian Project, “Stiches of Hope”. This is a wonderful two-way project that not only enriches and empowers the lives of children, young people, families and elderly in Cambodia, but benefits the homeless in Perth.  Our Club is a proud sponsor of the 'Sleeping Bag' project with a recent donation that will provide warmth for some of the homeless people in our city.

Last Wednesday evening I attended with Ray Philp,  the Melville Cockburn Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) 'Business After Hours' (BAH) hosted by the City of Melville.  The guest speaker was the WA Small Business Comissioner David Eaton and a wonderfull opportunity to talk with the City of Melville Mayor, Councillors and Staff.  And more importantly we made contact with some of the business people in the area promoting the opportunity to get involved with Rotary.  Also at the event were two City of Melville 'peer researchers' that expressed an interest in knowing more about Rotaract and I have passed their contact details onto the Melville City Rotaracters for follow-up.

There are a number of benefits for our Club to become a member of the MCCC that were demonstrated from our contacts at this event and I will be recommending to the Board that we nominate for membership.  Coincidently the next BAH's is at Melville Rotarian James Morris's Art Gallery in Fremantle.

Another great day out and delicious lunch (No Waste Monday) at Millbrook Winery.  Thanks to Lorri and Liz for organising.

I look forward to seeing you all at Tuesday’s meeting.

2021 Applecross Rotary JacFest Update
This will be the 21st Celebratory year for the fabulous annual Jacaranda Festival, all set for the 4th Sat in November, this year the 27th of the month.
This is also the 50th year for Applecross Rotary since it was formed in 1971, and it has a very proud history of contributing to both the local and further afield communities.

All who attended our 2020 Street Festival would agree that it was very successful, despite the complications of Covid, and the feedback from both our Stall Holders and the public was very complimentary of the tremendous effort put in by our Project team and army of volunteers.

The same format that delights those attending, with minor tweaks, will be the basis for our 21st Festival, once again in the leafy Ardross St Applecross Village.
The Entertainment Stage, with (hopefully) lots of local School groups, choirs, entertainers and musicians will be back again, forgone due to Covid last year.

There will be a range of new Stallholders, plus a lot of the long term favourites plying their wares, and a variety of Food on offer in the Food Zone.
The Kids Zone, always a favourite, will have more for the kids, along with the regular favourites.
