President's Message

President Barry opened the ZOOM meeting - good food which you can provide yourself, good fellowship which we are indulging in and the chance to serve.
Barry reported exciting news "that our offspring Labs Without Walls has been running for about 10 years and have been looking for money to do remote work that Tim Inglis has pioneered. Last week confirmed a significant donation, enough to buy outright the diagnostic platform that's a mobile laboratory that can be used initially for COVID management and Tim today is assembling a number of boxes that are flying up to Derby to do this work.
The laboratory will be TGA approved and is so good that is more compliant and better licensed than the main laboratorys which are used to valid the results coming out of this laboratory.
So it is a really big win win and we thank Northern Star Mining for a large large donation that we think will continue and will be looking at diagnostic capacity and capability scattered around the state in due course.  So a big big win for us and regional and rural health".

Repairing Bodies & Rebuilding Lives - Interplast Australia & New Zealand
This week's guest speaker was Janette Etherington, Interplast's Rotarian Engagement Coordinator, who ZOOMED in from her home in Victoria.
Interplast was started in 1983 by a Rotarian who replicated it from an organisation in America.
The model is sending teams of volunteers across developing nations in the Asia Pacific.  They only go to where they are invited and respond to specific needs.
Teams are made up of volunteer anaesthetists, plastic and reconstructive surgeons, nurses and allied health professionals.  It is about restoring function as well as dignity and some examples are cleft lip, burns and injuries that haven't healed.
