Melville Cockburn Chamber of Commerce (MCCC)
The planning committee met last week to discuss the types of awards that MCCC would offer in 2022, and also the presentation evening.
Rotary (Applecross and Cockburn) will be allocated an Apprentice/Youth/Trainee Category.
The MCCC board will meet in the new year to decide on the broader details.

We proposed introducing Pride of Workmanship Awards on a quarterly basis at MCCC Sundowners. This was accepted and we will work through the details separately.

Guest Speakers
Last week, we heard from past Rotarian, Wayne Smith, who set up the Give A Feed Xmas Hampers programme. Oscar Wharton, Marketing Manager, outlined the wonderful work that Foodbank does.

Tomorrow we look forward to hearing some wonderful stories from Gemma and Jade from Whalewatchers WA.

Guest Speakers from Foodbank
Our guest speakers for the last meeting were Oscar Wharton (Fundraising Officer Foodbank) and Wayne Smith (co founder 'Give a Feed').

Oscar gave us an update on Foodbank WA.  At Foodbank they believe everyone should have access to good quality food.  They are there for everyday West Australians who are going without. Foodbank WA delivers:
  • Support to nearly 8000 West Australians each month through their branches
  • Food and Groceries to 448 frontline charities
  • Breakfast and fruit to 475 schools feeding 21,000 children weekly
  • Education programs for over 5,000 children, adults and parents
They provide over 6.7 million meals to those who are doing it tough.

Give A Feed 2021
Co- founder of 'Give A Feed' Wayne Smith updated the meeting on the project he and Aaron Pitt, in conjunction with the Heirisson Rotary Club and Foodbank WA, started in 2012.

Give A Feed is a cause driven by passionate people ensuring that Christmas Hampers are sent to West Australian famillies in need so they can celebrate Christmas and not go hungary.

The project has raised 22,664 Hampers and $569,202.  2021 is the 10th Anniversary of the project with an aim for 3,000+ Hampers (current record is 3,232) at $30 each. This will be a milestone 25,000+ hampers.

Your donation of $30 will provide a Give A Feed Christmas hamper filled with festive food for a family of four to enjoy on Christmas day.  The hampers are packed by volunteers and distributed by Foodbank WA to ensure they reach those who are most vulnerable in our community.

AG Kenn's jottings
I joined Attadale ROTARY President John Sharp and members yesterday for a walk from the Dome to Canning Highway and return, to raise awareness of mental health and the work being done by Australian Rotary Health’s Mental Health Research unit.

The Laser Light display from Drones across Dyoondalup (Attadale Reserve) was held for three nights over the past weekend.
Attadale RC were in charge of the parking for the event, off Bourke Drive in Attadale, and borrowed most of our Parking assets from the storage unit, and then returned again this morning.
They collected well over $3,000 for their effort, and a great usage of our AxR ASSETS. Well done to our neighbouring RC!!

A Quick summary of 3 items on our Zone 1 Cluster agenda.

1. The Volunteers Sundowner on the 16th of November, 4.30 - 6.00 pm in the courtyard of the Almondbury Rd CoM Admin block.
The theme is to try to gain support from the 2000 Volunteers that the CoM Volunteers Resource Centre has on its list… work with local CoM Rotary Clubs and join with us in our voluntary community work.
Look forward to having a few along from AxR to support.

2. A storage facility for our 4 local Club assets.
Whilst the proposed Melville Mens Shed is fully spoken for in terms of a storage zone, it has been suggested that a direct proposal to the CoM, based on the combined sq.metre storage area required, may gain some support. This is being worked on.

3. Combined Club major fundraiser along the lines of a Comedy for a Cause looks like becoming an event for the first Q of next year. CoM are very supportive of the concept being held in the Main City Hall. More to follow.

So, an update in a few words. Plenty to keep one busy at the moment, for sure!
$208.30 Ian says thank you for your support.
