MCCC off to a strong start.

I mentioned last week that local Rotary Applecross, Melville and Attadale, and planned for Cockburn, have established a formal partnership with the local Chamber of Commerce. The initial Rotary project for support is RYLA, ( Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) and this is now being promoted on the MCCC member communications channels. Deadlines for applications for RYLA are the end of this month so I am hopeful that we will see some enquiries from business's of the Chamber. Plan is that the nominating business will cover the majority of costs to attend the camp, held at Serpentine 9-16 Jan, 2027, with Rotary to pick up a minor proportion. (It is usual for Rotary to pay the majority with the applicant to contribute about $250.)

As per the attached photo, Applecross Rotary was represented at the fund raiser for Mama Respond, but we were not successful in winning the prize draw for the Trip To Kenya, in which many of us had taken tickets. I think a local Kenyan supporter of Erin Hegarty's charity was the lucky draw. A real highlite was catching up with Cran Collis and his new Kenyan wife, Lillian. Cran has been involved with the Mama Respond project and also other Kenyan education activities, along with his busy role as head of his school in the near northern suburbs. Cran will be busy at the Jacaranda Festival again this year and we will welcome his support.

Talking Jacaranda Festival, on in under 2 weeks, plenty happening on the signage and promo space in the lead up, with the 6 local road signs put in place on Sat/Sunday, with thanks to Peter, John K and Brad. Please keep an eye out for them on: Reynolds Rd, Ardross St/Canning Hway...St Benedicts, Riseley St towards Garden City, and Canning H/way, Wireless Hill. Another one sits on the fence line at entry to Melville Bowling Club/Canning H/way and we have 2 at the entrance of  Applecross Village.
