President's  Jottings

Looking forward to our first breakfast meeting for 2021 on Tuesday 19 January, same time and same place.

The following Tuesday is Australia Day and there will not be a breakfast meeting, however members are encouraged to join the Australia Day breakfast being hosted by the Wayland Bay Sea Scouts. Let Gordon Dunbar know if you are planning to attend.

Our final meeting of 2020 saw a visit from Father (Spiteful) Xmas and now has become the battle to end up with Lorri's home baked Christmas cake.  The winner this year was Liz Palmer, however I heard that Max Cunnington somehow also ended up with one of these special cakes.  I believe this could prove VERY expensive if sergeant Chris Dawson is aware of this.

We currently have 3 participants at the District RYLA camp being held at the Serpentine Camping Centre.  Our Youth Services Director, Logan Duncan-Smith, has arranged for a report back to the club from our sponsored participants at Tuesday's breakfast meeting. RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) is an intensive eight-day program designed for 18-28 year olds to build their leadership skills and self awareness.  Ever wondered what they do at RYLA?  Check out the video

Our AGM will be held at Tuesday's meeting and all the details can be found at the meeting advice under the EVENTS heading. Please look through the attachments prior to the meeting and if you have any queries contact Chris Whelan or myself.

A Memorial Eucharist (9:30am) and Public Celebration (11.00am) of the life of Dr Helen Jones-Fairnie will be held on Thursday morning 28 January, at St Michael’s Anglican Church and Hall, 25 Gunbower Road Mt Pleasant.  Ian advises Applecross Rotary members and friends  are very welcome to join either or both.

Please consider attending the RotaryWA Joint District Conference.  This will be a special event celebrating 100 years of Rotary in Australia.  Along with inspiring speakers and a magnificent venue,  Rotary in WA will be showcased through the huge space available for Clubs to showcase and publicise their projects.

Early-bird special for Joint District Conference extended to January 15!
The Conference team have extended the early-bird special for full conference tickets up until January 15!
Simply insert the code EARLYBIRD65 when buying Full Conference Tickets (March 5-7) to make use of the discount,  Click here to secure your discounted tickets.
The Joint District Conference in 2005 celebrated 100 years of Rotary and the upcoming Joint District Conference will be celebrating 100 years of Rotary in Australia.
The Gala Centenial Conference in 2005 was held in the recently completed Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. This year's conference will be held in the "worlds most beautiful stadium" that was completed in late 2017.
The joint conferences provide an opportunity to intereract with Rotarians across Western Australia and provide the numbers needed to hire premium venues.
Rotary District Conferences provide speakers that engage and inspire. They also provide information on the many Rotary projects and activities both local and international.
Don't miss this opportunity to celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Australia and enjoy the magnificant Optus Stadium at what will be a memorable experience.
And you will be able to say when people talk about this special event in years to come,  "I WAS THERE!".

R100 Centennial Ball | Puttin on The Ritz - 20's Style | Friday 23 April 2021

The Rotary Club of Perth and the Rotary Club of Melville on behalf District 9455 and District 9465 have joined together to create an event in Western Australia that celebrates the First 100 Years of Service of Rotary in Australia – The Centennial Gala Ball.

The Theme is “Puttin on the Ritz” and we look forward to a large contingent of Rotarians at this event.  As this is a Western Australia wide event, and numbers are limited, we urge you to book your tickets asap via the try booking link below.

It’s a special time in the history of Rotary in Australia and NZ as we celebrate the First 100 years of Service in 2021.

In 1921, four Rotary Clubs were created in Melbourne, Auckland, Wellington and Sydney.  From there, Rotary and Rotaract clubs were created everywhere across Australia and NZ with the Perth Rotary Club being the first club to charter in Western Australia on 15 April 1927.

As Australians, we all share a centenary in 2021 and therefore it is fitting that we should all come together and celebrate the common legacy that we as Rotarians leave behind. Think about the impact we have made in this State and this Country!  Let’s shout out loud and celebrate!

There are limited tickets available for this premier celebration of Rotary in WA.  Therefore, I urge you to get in contact with your fellow club members, organise your table and book online as soon as possible, otherwise I fear you will miss out.
