Outstanding Citizen Soldiers

The scheduled speaker, Mark Wales, for our SPECIAL BREAKFAST meeting this Tuesday, commemorating ANZAC Day, has regretfully informed us of his inability to attend. However, we're fortunate to have Honorary member Chris Back step in for Mark. Chris will delve into the remarkable stories of citizen soldiers from our history, such as Talbot Hobbs from WA and John Monash from Victoria. Additionally, he will shed light on contemporary examples like NORFORCE, which plays a crucial role in surveilling our northern coastline. Notably, over 60% of NORFORCE comprises First Nation volunteers.

Mark is CEO Telethon Speech and Hearing Institute and he’ll be talking about teaching kids with little or no hearing, how to read. Deafness is endemic in children from the Eastern Wheatbelt.

Most of the deafness is technically preventable so even if we can start reducing the numbers with poor hearing, there remains the challenge of working with those kids who are already deaf, who need to learn to read.
