The whistle blows, and away we head East!
From an early start last Tuesday morning with a 7.10am departure from the East Perth rail terminal; the 7 plus hour Prospector train journey; then the wonderful itinerary of Kalgoorlie visits and activities; to the return home. What an adventure for those able to attend! Lots of great memories and put together by our own Liz and Max… thank you.
Tuesday evening: Some Rotary camaraderie!
On our first evening we attended the Boulder Rotary Club vocational meeting at the local manufacturer of their sparkling and brand-new BBQ trailer.
A short walk from our Motel, 8 Applecross Rotary members joined with about 20 from the local RC, and shared Rotary stories, a bbq meal and plenty of drinkies with their hospitality. KalBoulder RC raised over $250k for their community last year, with $165k, a new record, for their highly successful Radio Auction ‘super’ event! Certainly they have some VERY energetic community minded younger business-oriented members who ‘make things happen’ and that certainly includes working with their business community for generous support. They are truly committed to the needy requirements of their hometown locale.
It seems obvious that both Applecross Rotary and Kalgoorlie Boulder could, and should, share their ideas on both project management and development... we really have so much in common!
One of the projects that we could assist with is their
'GRAB & GO BAG'. In partnership with their local Flying Doctors, they provide a bag for passengers with basic items including an EFTPOS voucher for people who have to leave home at short notice. The project is driven by Club Service Director Aiden Luke who explained the project to our group.
For further discussion.
That BBQ Trailer.
Two large slide in/out gas hot plates, heaps of storage, plenty of high advertising space, and complete with an enormous ‘esky’, no doubt well suited to the known thirst of the region!
It is planned to get plenty of use at their local community and project level, and certainly can turn out volume meals and drinks, with minimal manning requirements for its capacity.
Friday night Sundowner.
We arranged for a final get-together Sundowner with the 2 local Clubs at a local Hotel and this was a fitting end to a great trip to our Far East Rotary cousins. Then on home again!
