At this weeks meeting I welcomed Perth Rotarian Jill Dawson together with their Exchange student Chiara Colombo from Italy, and Jill’s uncle John Ellis
Also welcomed was member-to-be Max Cunnington, and possible new member Chris Caithness, with Chris’ son Connor Ovens
BOARD REPORT
Last week’s Board meeting made a few decisions of interest to members:
1. It has requested a review of the management of the recent Global Grant for Sri Lanka Laboratory Training and Equipment. The Board also requested the President to ensure its successful implementation is broadcast via social media.
2. The Board recommended to membership that we begin meeting for breakfast at the Dome Café at Deep Water Point, subject to a vote of members, and an MOU to ensure reasonable certainty about the sustainability of such a move.
3. The Board approved a donation of $3000 to the Anawim Foundation in the Philippines to support the education of deaf children. This is being done via a secure facility set up by Aquinas College.
4. The Board confirmed the decision to purchase a portable defibrillator that will be present at all Club functions and events.
5. The Board agreed that Applecross Rotary would re-engage with the Rotary Youth Exchange Program in 2019 with a view of facilitating both an outbound and inbound student in 2020. We already have an applicant, Connor Ovens, and he will be interviewed by a Club committee, and then a District Committee, and will have to spend a weekend, away from his family and friends, with all the other outbound applicants, before the final decision is made.
DIRECTORS
Liz Palmer attended a Rotary Foundation dinner organised by RC Moora last weekend, and scored a banner to present to our Club.
HAPPY DOLLARS
Shauna Kinney celebrated her birthday by transferring $48 into the Club’s bank account, and members present found another $20 to go with it, especially from Max Cunnington who won the wine for a second week in a row and he’s not even a member (but will be next week). It was very sad to see Dockers’ supporters shelling out before the season has started!
NEXT WEEK
Clive Pearson: Boeing’s challenge to keep its planes in the air, and other aero-tales!
